How Do Infertility Treatments Work?

infertility

Some women can get pregnant on the first attempt. For others, it’s not that simple. If you’ve been trying to get pregnant for quite some time now without success, we may recommend that you begin the process of infertility treatments. Since there are different routes that can be taken depending on your specific situation, it can be confusing to navigate the treatment process. Don’t give up hope. Dr. Johns and his team of professionals at Fort Worth Center for Pelvic Medicine are here to help you every step of the way.

In the early stages of infertility treatment, you may undergo non-invasive treatments depending on the source of the infertility. There are some common options that fall into this category. Those with endometriosis may be able to conceive after laparoscopic surgery to remove the excess tissue from the lining of the uterus.

If these treatments are unsuccessful after a certain period of time, Dr. Johns may refer you to another medical professional. Advanced Reproductive Technology (ART) could help you conceive a child. In-Vitro Fertilization is another treatment that may work for you. With this treatment, an egg is fertilized in a lab and then the embryo is placed directly into the woman’s cervix.

If you no longer produce eggs, you may opt to combine your partner’s sperm with a donor egg; if neither the egg nor sperm is viable, a donor embryo may be implanted directly into the uterus. If you are unable to carry a child, gestational surrogacy is another option in which your embryo or a donor embryo is carried to term by another woman.

Each of these infertility treatments varies in success rate, as well as benefits and drawbacks. Honest conversations with your partner, your OB/GYN and our fertility specialist can help you better understand your options and arrive at a treatment plan that makes sense for your individual situation.

Have you and your partner been trying to conceive for quite some time to no avail? If so, you are not alone. Many couples struggle in this area. Make an appointment at Fort Worth Center for Pelvic Medicine to learn about your options regarding infertility treatments.
