Infertility

couple-trouble

Dr. Johns has offered comprehensive infertility evaluation and treatment since 1985.

Generally, if you are under 30 years of age, have regular periods, and no significant gynecologic history, the evaluation for infertility should happen after you have been attempting pregnancy for 12 – 18 months. If you are between 30 and 35 years old, we begin testing after 12 months of trying. If you are 35 years old or above, evaluation should begin after 6 months of attempts.

The basic evaluation involves a thorough history, physical examination, transvaginal ultrasound, blood work, semen analysis, and testing to make sure your fallopian tubes are open. Depending on these results, further and more exhaustive testing may be required.

In the past, laparoscopic surgery was employed to examine the uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes for endometriosis, adhesions, and other conditions. Fortunately, this step is rarely necessary today.

After the evaluation is complete, Dr. Johns will review the results with you and recommend a treatment plan. Should you require In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) or other Advanced Reproductive Technologies (ART), Dr. Johns will refer you to a subspecialty-trained and board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologist.

Call 817-923-5559 to make an appointment with Dr. Johns. Theresa will be happy to discuss your case.
