Gynecologic Ultrasound

Gynecologic Ultrasound

Experiencing unusual changes in your menstrual cycle? Pelvic pain? Pain with intercourse? Gynecologic ultrasound has become the most important way to evaluate these problems. This diagnostic tool is safe, painless, and extremely accurate.  Because Dr. Johns performs ands evaluates his own ultrasound examinations, there is no need for you to be sent to another office for this critical imaging. Findings are discussed immediately and treatment plans made. Dr. Johns is the only gynecologist in Fort Worth who is accredited by the American Institute for Ultrasound in Medicine in gynecologic and 3D ultrasound.

The Fort Worth Center for Pelvic Medicine is proud to provide our patients with a comfortable and relaxing place to receive gynecologic care. If you’d like more information about gynecologic ultrasounds or any of the other services we offer at our Fort Worth office, contact us today. We look forward to hearing from you!

What is a Gynecologic Ultrasound?

High-frequency sound waves are used to produce both two and three-dimensional images of the uterus, bladder, ovaries, and vagina. Viewed on a high-definition screen, these images are extremely detailed. This diagnostic tool is a quick, safe, painless, and effective way for us to investigate and assess gynecologic problems.

Gynecologic ultrasound is typically used to evaluate a host of gynecologic problems, including:

  • Heavy or painful periods
  • Bleeding between periods or after menopause
  • Pelvic pain
  • Masses or cysts in or around the ovaries
  • Pain with intercourse
  • Uterine tumors
  • Congenital abnormalities
  • Difficulty becoming pregnant

What can I Expect from a Gynecologic Ultrasound?

During a gynecologic ultrasound, patients lie down on a comfortable table. The ultrasound transducer is passed over the lower abdomen or inserted into the vaginal canal, depending on your symptoms and history.  This process is painless and is often likened to the sensation of a routine gynecological exam.

The entire gynecologic ultrasound takes about 10 minutes to complete and produces real-time, 2D and 3D images of the female reproductive system. These images are obtained, examined,  and interpreted by Dr. Johns during the patient’s visit, so they can get answers and discuss treatment alternatives immediately.

Why Choose Fort Worth Center for Pelvic Medicine?

At Fort Worth Center for Pelvic Medicine, all of our gynecologic ultrasounds are conducted by Dr. Alan Johns.  Doctor Johns is a board-certified OB-GYN with certifications in Gynecological and 3D Ultrasound by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM).  By combining a thorough history, examination, and real-time ultrasound, Dr. Johns is able to evaluate and discuss your case in an efficient, timely, and caring atmosphere.
