Transvaginal Ultrasound, Contrast-Infusion Sonography, and 3-D Gynecologic Ultrasound

Gynecologic Ultrasound

Transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS) has become the “Gold Standard” for evaluating the uterus, ovaries, vagina, and other pelvic structures in an office setting. It is accurate, quick, safe, painless, and inexpensive when compared to MRI or CT scans.

Since TVUS does not require you to have a full bladder (transabdominal ultrasound does), it is much more comfortable. Because it looks through the vagina (instead of through the abdomen, bladder, and bowel), the image we see is much more detailed and accurate. It is very common for abnormalities to be seen and diagnosed by TVUS that are not identifiable during a pelvic examination. The average TVUS examination takes about 10 – 15 minutes.

We have performed over 100,000 TVUS examinations over the last 15 years. Each procedure has been performed or directly supervised by Dr. Johns, giving us an unequalled body of experience in interpreting what we see during the scans. The addition of Color Doppler, 3-D. and contrast sonography has greatly enhanced our diagnostic abilities.

We perform TVUS in the same area where examinations take place, you are not sent to another floor, building, or office for your procedure. In most cases, the TVUS findings are immediately correlated with the pelvic examination and discussed with you.

Dr. Johns’ practice is accredited by AIUM (American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine) in gynecologic and 3-D ultrasound. His is the only gynecology practice in Tarrant County with AIUM accreditation.
